TOTAL RECALL Ford Recalling 390,000 Cars
Here’s something you really don’t want to have happen while you’re driving down the road; the door flies open. However, if you own one of the affected vehicles of the 390,000 that Ford is recalling due to a door latch issue, it’s a possibility it could happen.
These are the affected vehicles, according to Ford:
Affected vehicles include certain 2012-2014 Ford Fiesta vehicles built at Cuautitlán Assembly Plant, Feb. 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013; certain 2013-2014 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant, July 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013; and certain 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ vehicles built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant, July 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013.
A broken pawl spring tab is to blame, which would prevent the door from latching. Even if the driver is able to close the door to where it latches, a broken tab could result in the door opening while the vehicle in motion. Which is bad.
Ford is aware of one person who alleges that the door on their car opened while attempting to park, and damaged a car next to it. Ford is also aware of two allegations of soreness from the door bouncing back when the person attempted to close it.
All four door latches will be replaced at no cost. Remember, you can check if your vehicle is recalled online, wait for a recall notification to come in the mail, or give your local Ford dealership a call.
