Ford F-Series Trucks Have Comfortable Sales Lead in Canada

Despite the recent popularity of Ram trucks in the land of maple syrup, Ford remains on top by a wide margin.

We all know that the Ford F-Series has been America’s best-selling vehicle in America for over three decades – and America’s best-selling truck for even longer. As it turns out, our friends in the Great White North are pretty fond of the F-Series, too.

As it turns out, the Ford F-Series has been the best-selling vehicle in Canada for 10 straight years. According to Canadian auto site news site Driving.ca, it doesn’t look like it’s set to give up its stranglehold any time soon.

In fact, the F-Series apparently sells so well that if you combine the sales numbers of the #2 and #3 pickups, they would only outsell the F-Series by a few hundred units (258, to be exact) through the first three quarters of 2019. Pickup trucks are apparently very popular in Canada, and while Chevy and Ram have their fans up there, they simply can’t compete with the Blue Oval.

Through September 2019, Ford sold 117,042 F-150s in Canada. Ram pickups, the second most popular vehicle in Canada, account for just 75,324 units by comparison. The GMC Sierra and Silverado sell at almost a 1:1 ratio, with Chevy dealers moving 41,643 new trucks and GMC selling 41,976 trucks through September.

While Ford can boast a one percent increase in F-150 sales over last year, Ram has made significant strides in the marketplace. Their 11 percent gain stands in sharp contract to Chevrolet and GMC, who each down seven percent over last year.

While it’s clear that the Ram brand is making moves in Canada, it’s unlikely that it will dethrone the F-Series any time soon. With three months left in the year, the F-Series strong sales lead means that, in all likelihood, Ford will be celebrating yet another year at the top of the sales charts come January.

Other vehicles with top-ten sales performance in Canada include the perennial favorite Honda Civic, as well as its crossover cousin the CR-V. Similarly, Toyota’s Corolla and RAV4 also make the list. The RAV4 is built in Canada. Hyundai’s budget-minded Elantra compact sits at number ten, while Ford trucks make another appearance, with the Escape at number nine.
