Chicago to Denver On One Tank? Possible with ’17 Super Duty
When I asked you last week if there was anything you wanted to know about the 2017 Ford Super Duty, some of you expressed interest in knowing how good the fuel economy is, especially with the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel. While we might not be able to pin down an exact number for you, we do know that you can get from Chicago to Denver on a single tank.
The 2017 Super Duty, with the SuperCrew cab and big bed comes with an astonishing 48 gallon fuel tank. If you fill the diesel full of juice and hit the road, you can go nearly 1,000 miles.
Of course, that assumes the truck isn’t hauling a load and that you aren’t driving like a lunatic, but it is an impressive amount of range and much appreciated when you’re taking a longer trip. Who really likes stopping for fuel?
When it comes to pinning down a fuel economy number, it’s important to note that these trucks aren’t required to be fuel economy label tested. That being said, several Ford people told us to expect it to be “a little better” than the current-generation truck.
That makes sense, as they’ve done work to the 6.7L to improve performance and efficiency, and the all-aluminum body lightens the truck up as a whole.
We saw fuel economy readouts all over the place on the drive program, because trucks were idling a lot, being driven excessively, and towing. When we get one in for review we’ll be able to get you a more accurate number.
