Mismatch?

It's no secret that the mid-engine C8 Corvette is incredibly quick, with 0-60 taking a mere 2.9 seconds for Z51 package-equipped examples. But in this video from Race Your Ride, the latest and greatest example of GM's fiberglass sports car is no match for a 2020 Ford F-150, which looks relatively mundane yet packs some secrets under the hood.

Blown Power

The owner of this F-150, Chris Mayer, had his local dealer install a Roush supercharger on his pickup's 5.0-liter Coyote V8, which ups output from a stock 395 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque to 650 horsepower and 610 pound-feet, which flows to the wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Lighter, Faster?

On the flip side, we have the C8 Corvette, which is powered by a naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter LT2 V8 that makes 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, which flows to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. With far less weight to work with, one might imagine the Corvette would pull ahead for an easy win here, but that isn't the case at all.

More in the Tank

This sleeper pickup starts out by making quick work of a Jeep Grand Cherokee before lining up against the Corvette. On that pass, the pickup runs a 12.14-second quarter-mile at 111 mph, which is pretty impressive for a big SuperCrew truck. But as it turns out, the F-150 has more in the tank.

Leaping Ahead

The Sebring Orange Corvette lines up likely thinking they have this race in the bag, as the C8 is easily capable of ripping off low 11-second passes with no problem. However, they got the shock of their life when this F-150 leaps off the line with no drama and immediately puts a gap on the sports car.

Impressive Result

When the F-150 crosses the line, it records an even quicker 11.85-second pass at 112 mph, which beats out the Corvette's much slower 12.60-second pass, with a nearly identical trap speed of 112 mph. It's an impressive showing by the pickup, and an equally disappointing one for the C8.

Win is a Win

While the Corvette obviously should have run a quicker pass, a win is most definitely a win, and this F-150 deserves it after some good driving. It's also proof that it is in fact possible to outrun even a fancy sports car like the C8 in a truck, with the help of a supercharger, of course.
