Supercharged, 800 HP Ford F-100 Is Pure Insanity
This wild 1958 Ford F-`100 churns out 800 hp from its mile-high supercharged mill.
Over the Top
We've certainly seen our fair share of wild builds over the years, but one thing that we rarely come across anymore is what one might call a traditional pro street type of build - vehicles with huge rear tires and massive amounts of power under the hood, often coupled with over-the-top styling. However, that's precisely the case with this incredible 1958 Ford F-100 featured in a recent video from AutotopiaLA.
Controversial Choice
Zach - the owner of this wild creation - purchased it as a roller with no engine or transmission with the intention of putting something like a Cummins diesel in it. However, plans later changed, and the duo decided to go with a controversial engine choice - GM's LS V8 - so that they could go drag racing without wasting too much time building the truck into something more show-worthy - or correct, we'd argue.
Going Old School
Zach and his buddy also wanted to supercharge the new powerplant but didn't want to do what everyone else does - namely, slap something like a Whipple or ProCharger on it. He notes that no one does roots-style blowers anymore, and that's precisely why he slapped an old-school 8-71 unit on top of the 427 cubic-inch LSX, which was sent to Texas Speed for a full redo.
Little Boost, Big Power
Luckily, when Zach bought the truck, it already had copious amounts of work done to it, including a Crown Victoria front end, a 9-inch rear end, and a beefy third member, which is enough to help support the dyno-proven 800 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque this truck churned out at the wheels with just 10 pounds of boost.
Blazing Quick
However, Zach notes that the engine is capable of handling much, much more - as much as 45-50 psi, though he's only planning on cranking it up to around 20-25 to hit the 1,200 horsepower mark. In the meantime, this F-100 has run a best eighth mile of 6.40 seconds, which equates to a roughly 9-second quarter-mile - blazingly quick for an old truck.
Leave It Alone
Aside from the gigantic engine that's easily as tall as the roof on this old truck, along with its updated rolling stock, this old F-100 looks pretty much like it did when Zach acquired it, which is to say, covered in patina like an old truck that's been sitting out in a field for a long time. However, in this case, he took more of a "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" approach there.
Making an Exception
While we tend to avoid GM-powered Fords like the plague, this particular build was simply too amazing not to take a closer look at. After all, no matter who originally created the powerplant underhood, how often do we come across old Ford pro streeters with 8-71 blowers that are actually drag raced on a regular basis?
