Next-Gen F-150 Raptor Could Be SuperCrew Only
The SuperCab seem to be losing the race to the SuperCrew, and the next Raptor could be the first step toward its demise.
Power of Four
There was a time, not too long ago, when most every truck produced came in regular cab configuration. Then, slowly, people began to realize the virtues of having space to carry the whole family in their pickups. Thus, the SuperCab and SuperCrew became fixtures in Ford's lineup, and now dominate the scene. However, it looks like only one of them might be making it in the next-gen F-150 Raptor, according to Ford Authority.

Question of Numbers
The F-150 Raptor has been offered in both SuperCab and SuperCrew configuration over its first two generations, but the third-gen model, based on the all-new 2021 F-150, looks like it will only be offered as a SuperCrew. On the surface, this makes a ton of sense, as SuperCab sales are relatively paltry compared to the bigger, full-size four-door models.

Easy Ingress and Egress
Those who have owned SuperCab pickups already know that they're a bit harder for passengers to get in and out of, thanks to the unique way their rear doors open and the lack of exterior door handles. Meanwhile, SuperCrews have essentially replaced the American sedan in that regard, both literally and figuratively.

Baby Steps
Thus, this seems like an easy choice for Ford to make. We doubt anyone will protest the lack of a SuperCab option on the next Raptor, and there might come a day when it won't be available on the F-150, either. But for now, this move is akin to taking a baby step.

Other Details
Other than its possible cab configurations, there are a few things we know about the next F-150 Raptor. For starters, it'll sport updated styling based on the new F-150, and is rumored to be available with two engine options - some sort of 3.5-liter EcoBoost or PowerBoost V6, and possibly Ford's mighty 5.2-liter Predator V8 from the Shelby GT500.

Competition Ready
The latter move is likely to be a more limited (and expensive) model, one aimed at retaking the off-road-focused pickup horsepower crown from the forthcoming Ram TRX. That new truck will be packing a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 producing 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

Coming Soon(ish)
The only real question left to ask is, when, exactly, will the new F-150 Raptor arrive? Many believe it will make the cut as a 2021 model, but Ford is still in the thick of testing the pickup with multiple prototypes running around at the moment. Thus, it could arrive a little late for the 2021 model year, or perhaps even in 2022.
