Long-Time Rivals

The all-new 2021 Ford F-150 represents the 14th generation of The Blue Oval's best-selling pickup, and it comes packing a ton of cool new features in a familiar-looking package. Meanwhile, its long-time rival, the Chevrolet Silverado, rides into the new model year with a few select updates. So it's worth revisiting the age-old question once again - which is the better pickup?

Pros and Cons

In terms of pricing, both of these trucks start out at $28k, though most buyers will spend far more than that. So really, choosing between these two truck boils down to the features and choices they offer. In that regard, the F-150 provides best-in-class power, towing, and payload capacity, as well as the powerful and efficient 3.5L PowerBoost V6 hybrid drivetrain.

Cabin Comparison

The newest F-150 offers a vastly improved interior as well, with more luxurious materials and cool tech features available. Buyers can opt for a standard 8-inch or optional 12-inch touchscreen, as well as nifty features like an interior work surface or Max Recline Seats. Meanwhile, the Silverado's interior looks archaic by comparison and lacks the innovation of its cross-town rival.

Engine Options

Both of these trucks offer a ton of choices in terms of powertrains. The Silverado, for example, is available with everything from a turbocharged four-cylinder to a powerful 6.2-liter V8, as well as a standard 4.3-liter V6 and 5.3-liter V8, and even an inline-six turbodiesel. The F-150 is no slouch in that department either, thanks to the aforementioned hybrid, 5.0-liter Coyote V8, base V6, and 2.7 or 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6s.

Advantages

When properly equipped with the Max Towing Package, the F-150 can pull over 14,000 pounds, and its Pro Power Onboard generator has proven to be an incredibly useful feature for folks affected by the recent winter storms. Meanwhile, the Silverado is available with an Adaptive Ride Control suspension and Multi-Flex Tailgate - two things the F-150 does not offer.

Streak Alive

When the dust settles, however, the new F-150 is the obvious choice between these two trucks. Ford continues to refine its cash cow with each passing generation, keeping it ahead of the competition for a full 43 years now. The 14th-gen pickup is no exception to that rule and should keep it winning in the showroom for a few more years, at least.
