Both the F-150 and the Silverado come with various engine options that fit a variety of trucking needs. The Ford F-150 gives the buyer the freedom of choosing from four engine options: the standard engine, which is a 3.5-liter V-6 that puts out 282-horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque; the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6 Ecoboost that develops 325-horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque, a 5.0-liter V-8 that develops 385-horsepower and 387 pound-feet of torque; and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 Ecoboost engine that produces 375-horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.

2. Silverado Engine Options

Customers of the Chevrolet Silverado can choose from three engine options: The base 4.3-liter V-6 engine that delivers 285-horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque, a 5.3-liter V-8 that puts out 355-horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that produces 420-horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

3. F-150 Towing and Hauling

When it comes to trucks, the ability to tow and haul is at the top of some consumers' wish lists. The Ford F-150 offers smart towing features, like the Pro Trailer Backup Assist, dynamic hitch assist, smart trailer tow connector, and trailer brake controller, which allows the truck's brakes to synchronize with the trailer's brakes. 

If you choose the 3.5-liter V-6 engine, your F-150 will offer a 7,600 pound towing capacity, and if this is not enough, consider the 2.7-liter V-6 engine, which offers a tow rating of 8,500 pounds. The V-8 5.0-liter option allows for an 11,100 pound tow rating, and the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 offers the massive 12,200 pound towing capacity.

4. Silverado Towing and Hauling

The Chevrolet Silverado is also not here to play, and with great tow ratings, the pickup market is becoming more and more competitive. The 4.3-liter V-6 engine allows for a maximum of 7,600 pound towing capacity, the 5.3-liter V-8 allows for an 11,100 pounds, and the 6.2-liter V8 engine will allow its customers to tow 12,500 pounds, which is rated as best-in-class for the 2017 year.

5. F-150 Fuel Consumption

If you choose a standard F-150 with the stock engine, anticipate an 18 mpg fuel consumption in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The 2.7-liter V-6 Ecoboost engine is rated at 19/25 mpg, and the twin-turbo V-6 Ecoboost is rated at 18/24 mpg. Finally, the 5.0-liter V-8 engine has an EPA rating of 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the open highway. These ratings have gotten better since last year, thanks to Ford's new 10-speed transmission.

6. Silverado Fuel Consumption

The Chevy Silverado's fuel efficiency comes in just a hair under the F-150's ratings. With the 4.3-liter V-6 engine, customers can expect an EPA of 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The 5.3-liter V-8 engine allows for a 16 mpg fuel rating in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Finally, the biggest engine, the 6.2-liter V-8, is rated at 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway.

7. F-150 Notable Features

The 2017 Ford F-150 comes with a generous amount of technology. For starters, the new 10-speed transmission makes for an extremely comfortable and quiet ride, not to mention a tremendously responsive throttle thanks to the computer with double the coding than the previous year. The all-aluminum body sheds 700-pounds off of America's best-selling truck making the ride more buoyant and efficient. The F-150 also comes with an 8-inch LCD productivity screen, which offers real driving data that will provide drivers with useful information that will allow them to get the best fuel consumption, all through Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system that is easy to use and extremely innovative.

8. Silverado Notable Features

The Silverado offers some serious support, courtesy of nine cross members welded to the frame. The GM pickup comes with a colored touch screen, both in seven and eight inches, which offers 4G LTE Wi-Fi that can be used from outside of the truck. Also offered with General Motors' favorite truck is a full LED lighting package. The pickup offers triple-seal inlaid doors, which help reduce the noice inside the cabin.

9. Pricing

In the end, choosing between the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado will come down to styling, preference, and loyalty, simply because most truck fans stick to their favorite truck brand. Both trucks are impressively durable and capable. The Chevrolet Silverado can carry a price tag as little as $28,780, or as high as $69,205. The Ford F-150 can go for as low as $27,735 or as high as $69,645 for the Limited trim package.
