Pricey Endeavor

It's no secret that motorhomes aren't exactly what anyone would call cheap. Folks dish out hundreds of thousands of dollars for these mobile homes on wheels, then drive them across the country, living in total comfort even while away from home. But this custom Ford F-750 motorhome is a bit more special than the average luxury camper, and it's also one of the more expensive such endeavors with a build price that comes in at a whopping $6 million.

Big Task

This F-750 motorhome has been kicking around the internet for a while now after it was originally conceived by Peter Dunkel, the co-founder of o-founder of Dunkel Bros. Machinery Moving in Alameda, California, which has also previously been tasked with moving the Space Shuttle Endeavour around from point A to point B.

Heavyweight

Dunkel originally budgeted $2 million to build what is officially known as the 2008 Ford F-750 World Cruiser, but that number quickly swelled by three times as the project came together. He started out with a regular old, run of the mill F-750, which features a significant gross vehicle weight rating of 37,000 pounds.

Big and Wide

Dunkel then made the already-wide F-750 22 inches wider, which helps it span 10 feet in that regard. He also placed the rig on a new chassis with an air ride suspension to make it more comfortable before filling the interior with pretty much everything you'd typically find in an RV, such as a kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping quarters.

Big Investment

The World Cruiser is superior to a traditional motorhome in many regards, starting with the fact that it weighs roughly half as much yet provides the same functionality and max towing capacity. Dunkel also invested a whopping $20k in the electrical system alone to ensure that it was reliable, which often isn't the case with finicky motorhomes.

Cargo Capacity

Meanwhile, an on-demand hot water system eliminates the risk that propane brings, and allows for instant hot water on demand. Dual auxiliary fuel tanks carry a total of 60 gallons of fuel, while the rear bed can haul over 4 tons of cargo. There are storage boxes everywhere for even more gear, as well as a spare tire carrier, onboard air compressor, a hoist, and a water-tight, air-pressurized generator present here as well.

Still Impressive

One could make the argument that it still isn't worth $6 million, but Dunkel's impressive World Cruiser was built with a purpose, and that purpose is to be the most reliable and capable motorhome on the planet. In that regard, it seems that he succeeded with flying colors, and his creation remains just as impressive today as it was when it debuted years ago.
