Ford F-150 Triton Concept Was Way Ahead of Its Time
The Ford F-150 Triton Concept is historically significant for a number of reasons.
Truly Deserving
Over its long and illustrious history, Ford has churned out some of the coolest concept cars in the business - as well as trucks, of course. However, while some Blue Oval concepts have cemented their place in history, others have seemingly fallen through the cracks, largely forgotten by enthusiasts. That's true of the F-150 Triton Concept, though at least to us, this very cool creation deserves more love.

Previewing the Future
For starters, the styling of the F-150 Triton Concept is notable because it foreshadowed the tenth-generation model, which was a massive update compared to its predecessor. While it's only a regular cab and long bed when most opted for short SuperCrews during the curvy machine's tenure, the Triton Concept otherwise gave us a good idea of what to expect from the next-gen pickup.

Few Differences
For the most part, the Triton Concept accurately previewed the new F-150 at that time, which is really saying something in the world of concepts, which are often just one-off styling exercises. However, there are a few notable differences, such as the presence of a vented hood, along with a slightly different front fascia.

Car With a Bed
The idea here was to make the F-150 sleeker and more car-like than its predecessor, helping to attract an entirely new crowd of car owners that had never once had a truck in their garage before. That clearly worked, as the tenth-gen went on to enjoy massive success, while the Triton name lived on as a moniker for the truck's 4.6- and 5.4-liter V8 powerplants.

Alternative History
Regardless, Ford ultimately went back to a boxier design with the 11th-gen F-150, making the 10th-gen a bit of an outlier. There's no denying that model's success, however, and we still see a ton of them out on the roads today - though if not for the F-150 Triton Concept, history might have turned out far different.
