This is one concept that was built to do far more than look pretty at car shows.

Support Vehicle

Concept vehicles are, for the most part, merely showcases for technology, styling, or slightly exaggerated previews of future products. But when Ford and rugged outdoor fitter Filson teamed up to build this Bronco concept, they wanted it to not only be functional, but also to serve as a vessel to support firefighters and the National Forest Foundation, so that's exactly what they did.

Charitable Cause

For starters, the Bronco Wildland Fire Rig concept vehicle serves as a model for future firefighting rigs based on the all-new Bronco four-door. Additionally, the Bronco Wild Fund, which launched just recently, will also donate two Bronco four-door SUVs modeled after the Wildland Fire Rig concept to support forest firefighting crews who protect communities and defend vital natural resources.

Supporting the Cause

On top of all that, Ford and Filson will collaborate to raise funds in support of the National Forest Foundation’s reforestation programs and promote fire prevention awareness through limited-edition Bronco + Filson outdoor gear and via the custom Bronco Wildland Fire Rig concept vehicle inspired by vintage U.S. Forest Service Broncos and Filson’s iconic materials.

Fully Outfitted

The Bronco itself is based on a Badlands trimmed four-door with the Sasquatch package. It's finished in Forest Service Green, similar to the first-generation U.S. Forest Service Bronco, and is fitted with a host of aftermarket upgrades including a modular steel front bumper, Warn winch, Rigid light bar, custom roof rack, and all of the firefighting gear a crew might need to handle and situations deep in the forest.

Inspired Cabin

On the inside, Filson's signature materials can be found virtually everywhere, including tough otter green duck canvas on the door bolsters, armrests and seat trim surrounds, plus quilted black leather seats, inspired by Filson’s jacket lining, with embossed Bronco logos. The grab handles on the instrument panel and center console are painted in matching Filson otter green as well.

Tough Coating

Fireproof ripstop nylon similar to what's present on Filson backpacks and briefcases is used for the bimini-style top and rear cargo area divider. The top can be opened, rolled back, and secured by Filson bridle leather straps. Other materials providing long-term durability from the elements include Cerakote ceramic coating on the wheels, the center console, and instrument panel trim.

Concept With a Purpose

At the end of the day, the Ford and Filson Bronco concept is just that, however - a concept. It obviously won't be sold this way, but it does help us envision a future where Broncos will be out in the woods doing what they've done so well in the past - fighting forest fires in a very effective manner.
