Wild Dreams

Everyone has their own idea of the ultimate dream machine. Some (like us) covet vintage pickups, other sports cars, and some just want a giant motorhome they can tour the country in. That latter dream belongs to Sarah Maya Demetrious and her husband Hani, who designed and built this wild-looking Ford F-700 motorhome complete with an airplane fuselage up top.

Lifestyle Change

Sarah and Mani both love to travel, but the former tends to get motion sickness on the road, so the two had to design their dream motorhome with that in mind. As the design for Skyhorse was coming together, the couple thought about quitting their jobs as lawyers and living on the road, which is a pretty popular thing to do these days.

Multiple Sources

This F-700 - dubbed "Skyhorse" - features parts pulled from a variety of sources, including the aforementioned airplane, an ambulance, and a heavy-duty Ford truck. The entire rear box was taken from an emergency vehicle that also happened to serve as a bomb squad truck at one point in its life.

Two and Two

The ambulance/bomb truck cost the couple a mere $300 at a silent auction, but the engine in that vehicle was too far gone to save. Thus, the couple simply used the box and grafted it onto a 1994 Ford F-700 that was a decommissioned Florida Power and Electric vehicle.

Taking Flight

The F-700's 5.9-liter Cummins diesel was in good running condition and just needed some typical maintenance to get it humming along perfectly. As for the airplane fuselage up top, it was taken from a Cessna 310 that Hani purchased at a junkyard and then cut up to make it fit on the roof. It isn't just there for looks, however, and serves as the truck's bedroom.

Attention Grabber

As for the giant box out back, it houses a full kitchen, dinette, bathroom, and a couch/living area. The whole thing runs off four 145-watt solar panels and a battery bank, with a 95-gallon water tank and two 50-gallon fuel tanks on board to boot. The whole thing was then covered in a custom paint job complete with clouds and waves, as if this thing wasn't visible enough.

Unique Build

Ultimately, the couple drove and enjoyed their custom motorhome for several years before selling it back in 2015. It has pretty much slipped off the radar since then, but we can still look back and appreciate the hard work and vision that went into creating one of the most unique motorhomes we've ever come across.
