Number Swing

Over the past few years, automotive production has faced tremendous challenges stemming from the pandemic and resulting labor and parts shortages, coupled with a broken supply chain and even a union strike. However, things have rebounded nicely over the past few months, though to kick off 2024, a handful of Ford models have seen some pretty notable swings, regardless.

Ford F-150

First up, we have the Ford F-150, which is built at the Dearborn Truck Plant and Kansas City Assembly Plant. In January, Ford built a cumulative total of 26,368 F-150 pickups, but that number essentially doubled in February - to 52,775 units - which is a massive increase by any measure. Production of the refreshed 2024 model began in December, and as we recently learned, Ford held off shipping the revised F-150 until it completed quality checks, which may have played a role in this jump.

Ford Explorer

The Ford Explorer is also in line for a refresh for the 2025 model year, as that model was just unveiled a few weeks ago. Production of the 2025 Explorer at the Chicago Assembly Plant won't begin until this summer, but in the meantime, production of the outgoing 2024 Explorer increased from 21,835 units in January to 24,482 in February, which is still a notable jump.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

Then we have the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which was facing declining sales figures - at least until The Blue Oval significantly slashed prices of its EV crossover, which spurred a big jump to start the year. At the same time, Mach-E production at the Cuautitlan Assembly Plant in Mexico declined fairly significantly from January to February - going from 3,454 to 2,315 units - though much of that could be blamed on a large amount of carryover 2023 model year inventory.

Ford Maverick

Next up, we have the Ford Maverick, which is also built in Mexico at the Hermosillo Assembly Plant, alongside the Ford Bronco Sport. However, while Bronco Sport production remained stable between January and February, the Maverick dropped from 16,269 units to 14,316 - not a huge decline, but a notable one for a model that remains in high demand and short supply.

Ford Edge

Finally, we have the Ford Edge, which is set to be discontinued when production of the crossover ends in the coming weeks at the Oakville Assembly Plant in Canada. Those looking to purchase a new Edge should find plenty of them out there, at least, as production increased from 9,451 units in January all the way up to 15,167 units in February.
