Big Numbers

It's pretty much inevitable that when a hot new vehicle comes out, some dealers are going to mark it up and attempt to make some extra profit off that vehicle. The topic of whether this is right or wrong is always up for debate, but for consumers looking to purchase a new 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor, there are some seriously insane markups being slapped on the latest version of FoMoCo's off-road pickup these days.

Crazy Prices

A quick nationwide search turns up a variety of results, with markups ranging from $10,000 all the way up to $50,000. Perhaps the worst of them all comes to us from Sam Leman Ford, which is listed for sale with a ridiculous price tag of $133,525. With a sticker price of $83,525, that means this truck has been slapped with an absolutely insane $50,000 markup.

Lesser Examples

Aside from that sky-high asking price, most of the markups we came across seem to be somewhere in the $10-$20k range. That includes this Agate Black Raptor at Gordie Boucher Ford in Wisconsin, as well as this matching black pickup listed for sale at Arlington Heights Ford in Illinois.

Selling at MSRP

Luckily, there are plenty of dealers out there that seem content to sell new F-150 Raptors at MSRP. That includes Big Valley Ford in Stockton, California, which has multiple trucks currently available with no markup listed, as well as Ken Garff Ford in Greely, Colorado.

Shopping Around

Thus, as always, it certainly pays to shop around and consider traveling to purchase your new F-150 Raptor, or even perhaps have it shipped. Even if you have to pay for that, you'll definitely come out on top financially versus having to pay some exorbitant markup for the convenience.

Depreciating Asset

While the current market is a strange one where in some cases, used vehicles are worth more than new, that won't always be the case. Vehicles are historically depreciating assets, though it is worth noting that the F-150 Raptor tends to hold its value better than most.

Regretful Decision

All of that means one thing - those that actually pay massive markups to bring a new F-150 Raptor home will likely regret it in a few months to a year or so, or at the very least when they go to sell their trucks later on down the road. Sometimes, a little patience can save you a lot of money, after all.
