1973 F250 Camper Special 2wd Automatic Steering column

Hello Classic Ford Truck Guru's,
I have a 1973 F250 Camper Special 2wd Automatic that my wife's grandpa gave us. It's a great truck but he was getting a little senial before and made, "improvements" to the truck before gifting unit to us. Heart was in the right place but I've been fixing the damage he did since. Finally got it running again but the last thing that I need to do is fix the steering column. In his kindness we wanted to replace the steering wheel but instead of getting a pulley and pulling it off he cut it off with a sawzall. The steering had a lot of slack in it anyway, and I know the lower bearing is a usual colprit and planned on rebuilding anyway. Needlless to say I need to replace the steering column. I've found a guy on eBay that rebuilds them and it's really nice but he wants nearly $900 for it. I was wondering is there anything specific I would need to rebuild and where I could get replacement parts. I've found a few others that are used for a reasonable price. I guess long story long the big question I have is can I use any 1973-77 F250 2wd Automatic Steering column to replace/ rebuild or is there something specific I need to look for.

Any of you all's input would be very much appreciated.

Not going to say you are screwed, but those column parts have been obsolete for years and years
IMO
Your best bet, is a junkyard column and then rebuild that one with NOS parts from Ebay (if you can find them)
I would stay away from IdidIt brand columns
I believe you can find the bearings still
Shift tubes and shift collars will be difficult to find
You can probably still get the shaft? he cut
Take photos and post them

Yes, you should be good with any 73-77 steering column. The only real difference other than the obvious manual vs auto is whether or not the truck has power or manual steering. The manual columns are considerably longer.

Here is some photos. It's really just the tip of the shaft where the steering wheel connects were he cut it. If I can just replace that shaft I would be good with that. But also if I could make it easier by replacing the whole steering column with something used that I can rebuild and swap it out i almost prefer that.

Ok that's great. The turn signal is a bit loose to so I plan on doing a little bit of work to make it more functional. Thank you for the info.

Curious, I never seen a hollow shaft there?

I see one part of the cancel cam is broke off too. I tried replacements, but eventually just bought a new in box original switch complete.

Yeah the turn signal tends to dangle a bit due to the plastic broken at the top, makes it so the turn signal is hard to turn off.

You have any recommendations on where I could find a new in box original? I don't mind working a bit on the column to keep costs down but also don't want to waste time as well. Do you know of a place that sells the shafts?
