Not a project that I think will be loved, but I found myself needing to install a steering wheel from my 1989 f350 onto my 1986 f250. The reason for this is not only was it dry rotted to hell, it was also causing the horn to go off randomly and often.
Replacements I found in the hundreds of dollars and I legally need a horn, so here we are.
I happen to have a somewhat junky 1989 F350 and looking into it both the 89 and 86 had the same splines, so the only issue was the wiring.
After doing some multimeter testing, I found that the outer ring was the horn and that the left terminal in the 89 was its horn. So I just had to wire the right terminal from the 89 to ground and now I have a non-rotten steering wheel and a horn that works. Wiring the right terminal to ground Closer wiring of right terminal to ground "Somewhat rotten" The wife likes betty boop, don't judge.
