Yesterday, I discovered that my tailgate won't lock (or unlock) with either the key fob or door buttons. I also have a Leer topper with the glass door latch locking mechanism that's tied into the power locks. That lock doesn't work either.
This tells me it's likely not an issue that interior to the tailgate, and that the tailgate and topper locks are not receiving the signal to lock/unlock.
I dropped the spare and checked all the harnesses and connectors tied into the harness coming out of the bottom of the tailgate. I had previously greased all the connectors under there when new and they all looked to be in relatively great shape. No issues or obvious cuts.
I even checked/charged both batteries to ensure I wasn't getting any of those weak battery gremlins. Nada.
Any ideas on where I should go from here? I have the Ford extended warranty, but if there's a quick fix I'm missing, I'd rather go that route.
I haven't had the problem but the next thing I would try is to disconnect the connection to the lock on the cap and see if the tailgate works on it's own. When I was gainfully employed as a technician aftermarket equipment was almost always the first place to start with electrical problems.

Yep. If the problem started after aftermarket electronics were installed, the first place to check is those aftermarket electronics. The second place to check is where the connection was made. If it was made poorly, it's possible it completely cut the circuit and none of it is going to work.
