How long did your fuel pump last?
My fuel pump died dead a few days ago while I was traveling and I had to have it towed to a shop for replacement. 144,000 miles, original pump. 2003 with the 4.2. It was funny that I tried all of the tricks like banging on the tank, plus checked the fuses and relays, but the shop just squirted some carb cleaner in the intake, it fired up, they said "needs a pump". I was pretty certain that it was the pump because it started and sputtered a few times before it died completely, and only vapors came out of the Schrader valve. Then the shop only replaced the pump but not the whole sender, pump, lid, and wiring as an assembly. Maybe it was for the best since the Ford parts are probably better than aftermarket. $675 total.
So, how long did your pump last before it left you stranded? Wondering if preventive replacement at 100,000 is a good idea.
