Can you use a 5.5 foot bed cover with a 12" tool box in a 6.5 foot bed?
Hi All,
I'm new to this forum, but I've been around fte for a while with my 49 f1. I'm currently driving a 2018 F150 Supercrew with the 6.5' bed. I'm having trouble finding a good used hard cover, but there are plenty of 5.5 hard covers around. So I'm considering mounting a 12" wide toolbox at the front of the bed and using a 5.5 cover. Also, it would be nice to have a locking storage container that I can put my towing gear in so I don't have to store it in the cab or garage. I figure there will be water sealing issues at the toolbox end, depending on the cover design, but as long as they are not impossible to solve, I don't mind some tinkering. Will this work? Thanks!
Where i used to work, our trucks had the tool box and shorter bed cover just like you described. I dont know the exact measurements of the toolbox but it was a perfect fit. They had a foam type gasket along where the toolbox and bed cover meet and there was no water instrusion, just typical dust from the rear. It is very doable as long as you get the right size toolbox.
