odd Ford steering box. Does anyone know what its from?
I have an odd Ford steering box on my fork lift.
The bearings are shot. I need to figure out what ford it is from to get parts.
Has anyone seen a box like this.. NOTE the mounting surface is in the center of the box. NOT at the pitman arm.
Photo attached:
On the left is a 1950 F3 steering box on the right is the unknown one.
note
1. The mounting flange on the unknown one is in the center or the box. Obviously some of it has been cut off
3. Worm gear is large on the unknown one
4. The top bearing on the steering shaft is larger - part number Bower- BT14c
5. Pinion shaft is shorter
6. Adjuster bolt is a large hex key.
7. The partial part number on the flange is 33437. with a German cross stamp. A part made in Germany?
Welcome to the forum! What year is your fork lift? That could narrow it down a bit. It's possible the box was cast special for that application using known and common internals. If all you need is bearings and/or bushings, those should be identifiable and readily available.
