I am at my wits end, hoping some powerstroke guru's can point me the right direction.
I was driving my with the truck underload, towing a 4500# trailer. I experience a loss of power then a total shut down, time from loss of power to shut down was a couple of seconds. It felt remotely like it was in low fuel/limp mode before the shut down.
Injectors buzz with key on. No white smoke from exhaust
Engine codes are:
P0113
P0472
P0671
P0672
P2285
The P0113 and P0472 weren't present when I first scanned with my SCT scanner. I have since upgraded to a forscan reader so not sure if they were always there. Oddly, when I clear the codes and unplug the EBP the codes do not reappear. When I plug it back in.... codes come back. the P0113 I think is due to a faulty MAFF sensor and its been that way for a while.
I've unplugged the ICP with no change.
Fuel filters were dirty and have been replaced.
Truck is running Rotella T4 and has acceptable oil level. Less than 5000Km since last change. Fuel is at 1/2 tank.
Diagnostic PIDS from forscan below. The low RPM I know is an issue and I think its been that way for a while. I will be replacing the starter, but it wouldn't explain the shut down while driving.
I have previously replaced the IPR, probably 20,000 miles ago.
I unplugged the EBP, no change though it did not trigger the code when unplugged. I am going to let the batteries charge over night and do some more digging tomorrow.
P0472 is an electrical code ONLY. It could be the EBP sensor OR the wiring to/from the sensor. Also, it could be an issue with the "signal return" circuit (which is ACTUALLY the sensor ground circuit to the PCM) that is shared with several other circuits and sensors. It is a lessor likelihood that the EBP sensor signal circuit itself is bad. It could even be an issue with the v-reference circuit - which could be caused by issues at the EBP sensor or possibly another sensor on that circuit. The EBP sensor v-reference circuit also supplies the EGR valve and the ICP sensor (Brown wire with White stripe). The signal return circuit is a Gray wire with Red stripe and is common to the same three electronic components (also to the EOT, ECT, MAP, IAT2, MAF, and less likely the APP sensors).
Fan clutch also might cause issues with PCM grounding, maybe even the IPR as well.
Seemingly unrelated to an EBP code, the following issues can set a P0472:
Fan clutch (internal wiring) short
ICP sensor short
MAP sensor short
EGR valve actuator short
Baro short
This has to do with EITHER shared v-reference circuit, or the shared "Signal Return" (PCM ground) circuit
P0113 (Common to have this code if the MAF is disconnected with the key on).
IAT1 wiring are the outer two wires (one on each side) on the MAF connector.
IAT1 sensor output above expected sensor range:
Faulty Intake Air Temperature (IAT1) Sensor
IAT1 Sensor harness is open or shorted
IAT1 Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
Dirty Air Filter
Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
This can cause transmission performance issues
-40 *F is the typical default on a wiring failure when the v-reference shorts to the signal circuit. Also, a completely "OPEN" circuit will read -40*F (confirmed this).
P2285 - ICP Sensor - Circuit Low. Visually inspect the ICP sensor harness and connector for damage, corrosion, or incorrect routing. This is what you get when you disconnect the ICP, which can mislead you in troubleshooting.
