1968 FE360 Thermostat Bypass

Good evening fellow Enthusiasts! I've acquired a 1968 Ford F100 with the FE360 engine. I am trying to understand about the thermostat bypass. I can't for the life of me see an Internal bypass that a thermostat will block. I do see a short "bypass" hose from the top center of the water pump, to the intake directly beside the thermostat opening. Is this my bypass? I'm Trying to determine if i need a special "Hat Type" thermostat to close off for bypass, but again I just don't see it.

Yes, the short hose is the by-pass.

I thought the special type of thermostats were for the 351 Cleveland (USA type) engines only? Did some FE's use the same (or similar) style?

The Cleveland's had a special spacer/washer that went in with the thermostat to do the by-pass. I don't recall any FE's using it. The short by-pass hose can be a pita to change. If I recall there is only about 1" clearance between the 2 pipes to work the hose in.

Thanks, so no special "Hat" type of thermostat... Just correct size and appropriate temp. Thinking of going with a 180 degree. The old thermostat measured 2.12 inches. Fit really sloppy in the "recess" of the housing. That recess measures about 2.3 inches
