Did you find what you were looking for as to the specifics of the truck?
Thank you! I should have paid more attention to where the "medium duty" stuff lived

It's amazing how much information you can gather from a VIN. I'm currently window shopping for something I very much don't have to have, but deeply miss my 1992 IDI. Decided I absolutely love the look of the 73-79 f500 and up. This was advertised as a 1978 F550, but I had doubts based on what info I was able to find. Story goes, this was originally owned by a fire house and used as a pump truck... or at least had a tank on it.

I do believe that is an 8. Assuming I'm reading that correctly, does that mean this is a twin stick with 20 forward gears? It's probably more accurate to say a five speed with 4 ranges, but that sounds less fun.
With all of that going on under the truck, I'd be willing to bet its 2x4.
If it was 4x4 it would be noticeable from quite a distance.
This is a CDL truck so if you have one fine, otherwise it's a can of worms to get one.
And if your luck breaks and you get cited for driving without the CDL it's two cans of worms with a side of poop.
.
I do happen to have one, but my understanding is its not exactly required if its for personal use, etc.
The more concerning part for me would be its impact on my job. I run my clock pretty close on a daily basis... and I'm not quite confident enough in my understanding of the laws to experience my first ticket as a professional driver.
I can definitely see where trying to buy one of these without a license would be interesting.
