Hi all! New to the forum so thanks for letting me join. I have been battling an ongoing issue with failing cam position sensors. The long of it is, the end of last summer I had a the original 305,xxx mile original fail. Purchased one from Auto Zone and it lasted a week. I have heard that Fords like factory parts, so I then replaced that one with one from the dealer. That one lasted 3 days. Returned it to the dealer for a replacement and that one was faulty right from the box. I then got one from Advance Auto, that one worked for 8 months. I had the replacement from the dealer on hand( new replacement from the bad on last year I kept in the truck just in case) well guess what! That one is also junk new from the box! I have replaced the pig tail, and checked lol the wires as far as my eyes can see! Do you have any recommendations for a place or brand of sensor that is known to be a good make! A company that is known to sell quality parts!
After all of that, I'd lean toward it not actually being the sensor. I'd be going over wiring diagrams and checking voltages and signals with a meter and an oscilloscope before replacing anything else.
Welcome to FTE. Head over to the 6.0 section of the forum where you’ll find more of us in a group to help you out.
One thing in your specific issue is check out is where the cam position sensor, and crank position sensor are mounted. The tolerances are super tight. A little rust and swollen steel from rust can cause intermittent issues. Make sure you thoroughly clean the mounting surface. You also need a decent live scan tool like FORscan or equivalent.
See you in the 6.0 section.
