Another dead truck thread

My truck just gave out and died on the highway the other day. I read these forums since I had it towed to a repair shop. I cannot figure out what it is. These boards point at the CAM Senser. The shop replaced it and still nothing. The truck completely "shut off" without warning.

Can someone please help this ?

It really sounds like the cam position sensor to me. Is the replacement a bad part? Did they test it on another vehicle? If it's an aftermarket part (not an International part) they are not as reliable or consistent.

cam shaft sensor? Really? I didn't relize there was one, but I really like to stick to older vehicles with less parts to go out plus, they can be easier to replace. So, now I know there is a camshaft sensor, and a crankshaft sensor. Could be the crankshaft sensor. Is there any information/ codes that can be scanned off the engines computer? Hard to say what might of happened? Hope you find out more, good luck

there is on the powerstroke 7.3L the IDIs do not but not many come into a dealership for work seeing how old they are

i think the cam sensor is actualy recalled on the older 7.3 PSD i have changed a few at the dealer i work at under a campain same with the cruise brake jumper harness.

other then that with out actualy seeing the truck hard to diagnose. do you hear the fuel pump? dual tanks? try switch from the front and rear

If the tach doesn't move when it's cranking then it's the CPS.

yes, that would make perfect sense to be the crankshaft positioning sensor. Very neat

Ok, Truck is at the shop. Replaced Cam Sensor. Still nothing. Mechanic says it might be the Injector pump in the block? Also claims that the glow pug relay was replaced with a starter relay. (Bought truck from another person.)

I'm still confused as to why it isn't starting. Where else Should I be looking at?

So this is the second CPS that's been in it since it died? And just to confirm, the tach is moving when you crank it? And the codes still point at the CPS?
