as far as I know I've seen every dipstick tread, but no cigar..
I have a 73 F350 460 and replaced the timing cover. (where the dipstick goes in as well) It's an aftermarker one and I bought a new dipstick tube as well.. (same as OEM I assume)
Now the problem is that the tube doesn't go in the timing cover far enough.. I heard it should stick out on the upper side only 13/16 " but it's sticking out about 2"
should i try to tap it in further with force? (almost sure it's bottoming out) or just cut it to the right sitting height?
And if I just put a bit of RTV on the lower hole, will it seal enough?
If either the timing cover or the dipstick tube is Chinese, any problem is very possible.Try another dipstick tube. Sealing with RTV has always worked for me.
