Best US made duraspark 2 module?

Blue grommet. 2 plug DS2 module.

It’s chinesium, been on there about 5 years and I’ve been wanting to replace it with a heavy duty US-made module for awhile.

It’s firing a built 400 with a stock coil and MSD distributor.

What’s the best heavy duty US made module available?

Most swear by the OG Motorcraft Ignition Module with blue grommet. Mine is a 76....so I'm running the module with blue grommet for DS2.
Not sure it's made in the US. I bought mine from Rock Auto...like 15yrs ago.

Some indepth infro thanks to Number Dummy to help with the search.
Ignition modules,
74 (black grommet) and 75 (green grommet) are year specific and will not interchange. 76 to 79 (blue grommet) are interchangeable.Ignition modules: 1974 is 1974 ONLY / 1975 is 1975 ONLY.
Blue module introduced in 1976 was used well into the 1990's. D4AZ-12A199-C 1974 only

DuraSpark ignition modules identified by a colored plastic insert located above where the wires feed out.
2 others: One has a redplastic insert, the other has a yellowor brownplastic insert.
Redmodule is D7AZ-12A199-Aused in some CA vehicles ONLY.

D9AZ-12A199-C(replaced D8AZ-12A199-A). One of these modules isyellow , one is brown.. Since the part number was replaced, I cannot recall which module was which color.
These modules were used in 1978/79 302 & 351M/W vehicles sold in high altitudes only. 351W: Passenger Cars & Econolines only.
1U2Z-12A199-AA(replaced D6AZ-12A199-B - D7AZ-12A199-B - D8VZ-12A199-A - D9VZ-12A199-A) .. Ignition Module -blueinsert (Motorcraft DY-893) / Available from Ford. Myriad 1976/90's FoMoCo vehicles.

Side note question: does that MSD distributor have a stand alone ignition module, meaning is it a RTR or HEI? Because
MSD distributors, specifically the Ready-to-Run (RTR) and HEI models, feature a built-in ignition module. Here is the breakdown of how MSD distributors handle ignition modules:
  • Ready-to-Run (RTR) Distributors: These include a built-in module and do not require an external ignition box (like a 6AL).
  • MSD HEI Distributors: These come with a high-performance MSD ignition module pre-installed inside the cap.
  • Pro-Billet Distributors: These typically do not have a built-in module and require an external MSD Ignition Control.

If you are going to quote number dummy, it has to be in ALL CAPS and ANGRY!!

Thanks again for that info. I actually have access to an original CA emissions/ red grommet “hot” module, but not sure what I’d need to change to make it work.

I heard with the red grommet, I can do away with the ballast resistor ( no like MOPARts on me ford) and there is no crank retard function, and more sparkier lightning bolts which would be awesome. I think. Internet rumors.

77&79F250, I always appreciate you’re vast wealth of knowledge.

It is an MSD RTR.

I was all set to go with a 6AL box, but was talked out of it by someone pointing out that my duraspark was all original with a 45 years and a gazillion miles on it.
