6.7 starter not engaging
Hey everyone. 2016 F350 6.7. I’ve had it about a year and I’d say maybe once every week or so when I go to start the truck, the starter would spin but it engage. Just make a whirring sound like they do when the bendix doesn’t engage the flywheel.
This last week I finally got myself to replace the starter (not easy on these) with an ACDelco reman and it’s the same. Actually worse. Now it’s every couple times. If I try repeatedly it will eventually engage which makes me think it’s probably (hopefully) not flywheel damage.
What am I looking at here? A defective new starter? Is that common? My batteries seem strong but I only have a 100 amp load tester. Since it happens with the truck hot I’m doubting battery issue.

Sometimes it can just be a worn out solenoid on the right fender well.
Check or replace your positive battery cable going to the starter.
Also clean and check the other wires going to the starter.

If that happens on my 16, if after checking cable connections and they checked out, I'd be doing a new starter... we have 10 year old trucks.
