90 F150 2wd VSS help!!

Who has recently replaced their VSS with mechanical Gauge?? What part did you use? I bought two Dorman 917-614 and both will not allow the cable to engage the gear!! The original part that was leaking (ford, where the cable itself goes into the gear is square shaped all the way down. Dorman decided that was not needed until the very end of the gear. I even replaced the cable and still no engagement. Put the old, leaking sensor back in and bam, stupid speedo works… I haven’t been able to find a ford one. My local JY doesn’t have any trucks compatible… I can deal with the leak if i have no choice, but I would prefer not to..

Basic geometry taught me squares don’t go into circles!! Not working anyways. This is the Dorman.

For some reason, that doesn’t pull up on my search on RA when I look by my vehicle… either way, it will be here Wednesday afternoon, I didn’t want To pay the extra $100 to have it here Wednesday morning. That blows my mind every time I order from them. Thank you @My4Fordtrucks !

Surprisingly, my '90 F-150 came with a mechanical speedo, while my '88 T-Bird had electronic. Seemed at the time like a step backward. The F-150 has an E4OD, while the T-Bird had an AOD. What trans does your F-150 have?

Could you try pulling the gear off the old speedo cable and swapping them? And keeping the new part just changing gear?

The “gear” is what I was replacing initially. The sensor has the gear built into it and it was leaking.
