I have noticed this a couple of times before. After shutting down and getting out of the truck while walking away I will hear a buzz or whrrring sound coming from the truck. Almost like an actuator of some kind cycling. Not really sure where on the truck its coming from but this morning it seemed to be toward the rear. I got maybe 30' away when I noticed it. The sound last maybe 3-5 seconds. Not enough time to get back for a closer look. It doesn't always happen so I can never really be ready to look for it. Any body else ever notice this? This is a 2024 F350 XLT 6.8l gas just turned 2K miles.
Oh, these trucks make ALL kinds of noises when shut down. The biggest is the DEF tank. I swear it must be female with the big O sometimes it is so loud. I had the hood open the other day doing a fluid check, turned it on for a minute to get washer fluid going and shut it off, there were all kinds of clicks and whirs and pops going on under the hood, and that was without starting it.
Had this happen this morning. Seemed to come from the back of truck and was similar to hearing a windshield wiper on a dry window. Truck had been sitting in some heavy rain during church and we drove home (about 12 miles) in a decent rain.
It's the Evap control on the fuel tank. It has valve in it to close off the tank, and open to the carbon holding tank that is used during cold running to purge off fumes that would have otherwise been vented to atmosphere. My F150 did the same thing when shutting down.

This is most likely it. The parking brake would be right after you put it in gear and at the very latest when you open the door after shutting the ignition off, and it's a quick "swoosh" that lasts about a second. When it's heard for some duration while walking away and coming from the rear, it's the emissions control in the fuel system.
On my 23 4runner it is not unusual to hear it shutting off several hours after the vehicle has been off. Apparently it's "normal"
