Banks Headers on Manual Trans

@OBS7.5 Here are some picks of my headers on my OBS with a manual trans. This was Banks Power Pack 48804-B for Standard Cab w/Manual trans.

See how crappy the Y-pipe angle is. I had to massage it to have the angle it is.

Headers aren't really close to the ZF5 on the driver's side

Wow, I didn't think a company like Banks would route their headers like that.

The headers aren't the issue really it is the bend in the Y-pipe. I've blown out the factory Y-pipe in my 460 equipped Class C twice and hadn't welded then the 2nd time I bought a new Y-pipe. The Banks Y-pipe is high quality but the bend is off.

I'm still not quite to my new 7.5L engine install on my 2wd 7.5L/E4OD with mid-length headers, but I'm hoping for a routing more like the stock. They're supposed to fit, and Y-pipe routed above that crossmember -- I'm retaining the original factory-style catalyst just aft of the trans crossmember. BUT if not, it'll be cut/weld time. We've built exhausts for many 'non-standard' engine/trans swap installations, so tweaking them a bit is not a major concern...

Oh, wow. The ones I got for the manual transmission go above the cross member. And they fit on my auto with no issues. Banks 48815 kit for 7.5 manual.

That is interesting. It looks like you just have a better Y-pipe design than mine. I reused all of my stock exhaust hangers without any modifications BUT I would have preferred it tucked up more.

Now THAT'S more like what I'd expect from Banks. That's also how my mid-length headers (not Banks) are routed.

And what headers would you have?

It appears to be a $2k kit and unavailable. Any ideas where to get just the headers? I don't want the rest of the kit.

Word is that Banks discontinued the kit. If the headers alone aren't available through Summit Racing or Jegs you would have to contact Banks directly. My kit was purchased through Summitracing.com but shipped directly from Banks. I saved about $50 going that route rather than buying from Banks directly. The headers by themselves were $1100 when I purchased the full exhaust. I didn't have to touch anything on the truck all of my factory exhaust hangers were reused so that is why I did the kit. A custom exhaust shop near me does good work for cheap but they charge about double the price of 2.5" to do 3.5" and it took me less time to install than it would have to take it to a shop and pay them to make everything from scratch.

I did buy the whole kit from front to back (new old stock). I did get stiffed on the air cleaner lid that comes with it. If anyone has one laying around, let me know!

before I changed my EFI setup I had one and got one with the full exhaust and I didn't notice any difference in feel or fuel economy on my stock engine. I sold both at a garage sale.

I had a feeling. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll keep my money!
