Thought I'd show some of the parts I've been gathering for my 304 stainless headers I'm starting to fabricate.
Collectors are http://www.stainlessheaders.com/mergecollectors 2'' primary tubes with a 3.5'' exit with a ventruri design tri Y. I also have a box full of 90 degree elbows and a 20' stick of tube. Still getting parts for my tig setup.
I purchased this Miller 300 xmt inverter. Stick, tig and will aslo power my Esab portable mig suitcase capable of weldling massive 1/16 wire.
I've never built headers before so it will be a learning process. Stainlessheaders.com has a very cool video series on youtube on how to make customs headers. Worth a look at if your interested..
your gonna come home to find someone has hacked them off at the heads to sell for scrape
Think I'd cry. Haha
I'm deciding on buying a set of FE bigblock 3/8 head flanges at $70 a piece plus shipping or make my own. I would use 5"x3/8 stainless flatbar and give it to a local shop that has a plasma table. They could just use a header gasket for template just for the square holes. I would then just punch the 7/16 holes after at my shop. Got a buddy searching his shipyard for some material.
I'll probably need some tube sent to Vancouver where I can get some mandrel bends made up. Sucks no one in my area has one and a standard exhaust bender will distort the tube.
With Mandrel bent 90s, you can make any bend less than that with a simple cut. You should be golden with what you have.
The 90 elbows I have will be used right at the collector going directly up on about 6 of the 8 tubes. The others are more gradual. Off the head there's some tight radius 90's as well. I have a box of 10 elbows. My fastener shop gave my a Qoute of 31$ each one!(my shop account) Crazy expensive. Lucked out and a guy I know had theses ones he gave me. All 304 stainless. I'm going to duplicate the headers I already have to make things much more simpler. I'm shooting to keep the tubes all equal length 30-33" long as from some header research I've read is the optimum for performance. I'm guessing the headers I currently run are A good flow design to start. I think they are Hedmans but not sure.
Was looking into some 180 ,6" inside radius tube sections I can buy to make the less gradual bends. Prices are between $40-$80 per 180 hoop online. Gotta be 304 grade and 16 gauge! Shop in Vancouver quoted me $20 per bend up to 140 degrees they are capable of. Maybe I'll just get them to make me some out of my own material. I hate trying to work around problems like this when it comes to specific specialized stuff. Just like the tie rod taps it's ongoing issues that I have to figure out on my own..
So headers are on hold till I get back..I'm chillin poolside in Anaheim, then Vegas on Sunday, but I've been searching for air/fuel ratio meters. This one in particular looks to be the most accurate
They make a lm-2 with a OBD reader but I don't need that. I want to weld a wideband 02 into one of my collectors to be able to read and record AFR at cruise, idle and WOT. Seen these go on eBay for about $150.
Anybody ever used one of these before? I'm Probly gonna get a " read your plugs" * flipoff*
