2023+ 7.3 No More Messy Oil Change

I've had this sitting in my toolbox for a few months now and finally installed it yesterday when I changed the oil (won't get into what oil I filled it with lol). I like the design of this valve because it has a cap sealed with an o-ring and in theory, when I change it next I can just hook my John Dow oil extractor right up to it with the drain adapter it came with and let the extractor draw the oil out without even having to drain it into a pan. Torqued it to 15 ft/lb with no drama, checked that it was snug in both directions with a wrench, put the cap on and all appears to be good.

It's a Stahlbus drain valve. I chose this instead of the Fumoto because you have to get the adjustable position valve in M12X1.75 to clear the recess where the drain plug is, and that valve only comes with a very short nipple.
Amazon Amazon

Yes, you can cover the transmission cooler with butcher paper or aluminum foil. I didn't want to have to keep doing that.

Never seen one before, any concern with the ball bearing inside breaking free into your oil pan? I like the idea because when I changed my oil for the first time myself I had to use a wrench the whole time to get the plug out, not sure if someone screwed the threads up in the pan or the plug.

Thanks

No, not really because the ball and seat are held in place from the outside by a snap ring. There's a pretty good size shoulder on the oil pan side that it would have to get past.

M14-1.50 Quick Twist Valve with Stainless Drain Tube **** – ValvoMax Oil Drain System

This is what I purchased for my 6.7 truck but have yet to install. Love the concept but my only concern is if I have someone else perform the oil change, like the dealer, I have to remember to supply them the drain cap and tube. Not a big deal if you store in the truck.

If you take it in for someone else to perform oil changes why change it out?

I don’t find the oil change to be all that messy personally. But you know what they say about opinions 😆

I'm just glad the filter is right there.

Ever change oil on a newer Ranger? Worse than Chrysler cars that used to have the battery behind the front wheelwell liner.

beats someone stripping the factory bolt by tightening it too hard with an impact wrench?

Right, I took it in for the first free oil change but have changed all the rest myself. It would be the just in case scenario. Guess I'll throw it in the next change since the "just in case" will probably never come.

Impact wrench on an oil pan bolt.... I could see that. The new oil technician just trading in his burger spatula for shiny motorized gadgets.

"I tightened it as much as I could, no leaks!"

I have a 24 I can see where some have concern where it hits the cooler but in my opinion it’s not all that bad.
