Crank shaft seal leak

I crawled under the truck this morning to change the oil and saw oil residue, followed to the crank area. I don't know when it started Ford did the first oil change on 5/10/21 @ 8,284 miles now at 17,983 miles.

The dip stick wasn't showing low but will have to keep an eye on it now.

RainDesert showed this on his truck around 25k miles.

Don't know when I'll get it in for warranty but will have to try in my travels.

Hope this isn't a seal that needs replacing occasionally on this engine, that would sux.

Keep an eye under truck 7.3 owners.

Definitely don't want that. Maybe it will be a easy, in vehicle, fix?

Looks like a straight-forward job, if they have the right tools.

Fords quality sure has been questionable lately.

"Quality Job 1" needs to come back.

I was at the Ford dealer yesterday for a part for the 6.7 and talked to the service guy about the seal on the 7.3. Next Saturday have them look at it so they can order whatever parts then back again for the repair. What a pain but atleast it's warranty work.

I said I can show him a picture but they have to see the truck, pretty obvious.

Ford looked at it to confirm that it's the crank seal. It's back ordered to Sept 15th or so. If it's not in by end of Sept I told him I'll have to wait till I'm in AZ for the winter and start the process over.

Parts came in, 0730 appointment on the 16th. Mechanic said it should be ready by lunch. I'll have to put a couple movies on the tablet to watch while I wait.

I'm hoping it's just a bad boat load of seals and the "new" seals are better. I rack up miles fairly quick so I'll keep an eye on it going foward.

Seems like a not uncommon issue with the 7.3 so far.

I see they have a updated part number for the seal so here's to hoping they made a change to the seal for the better.

Took the truck in for the repair 0730 entered, drove out at 1030. I'll keep an eye on it to be sure it was just a bad batch of seals and not a recurring issue.

These were the part #s.
MD8Z 6700 A_ SEAL ASY - CRANKSHAFT OIL
LC3Z 6A340 A_ BOLT

Just turned over 26,000 miles

That is the updated part # for the seal so hopefully all is good now.
