I was under the truck this morning changing the oil and checked the crank shaft seal, 43,250 miles (1,015 engine hours, 278 idle hours) on the truck. 17,000 miles on the new seal and all looks good.

Well, I was finally going to take my truck in for the fix tomorrow. I just crawled underneath and it looks like it has quit leaking. Before it was soaked with oil, now there is just a dry residue. I'm leaving on a trip in a few weeks and I'll pass 36k miles. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Get it in so Ford can see it and order the parts before you're out of warranty. Get it fixed once your done with the trip.

I have 57k on my truck and no more leaks since the fix. 😉

Crank seal should be covered by the 5/60 powertrain warranty. The 36k bumper tp bumper doesn't matter. I agree with getting it in, verified and parts ordered. I am generally a bit fearful of bringing a vehicle in for work these days. Two weeks to do a 4 hr job isn't going to work for me. I can bring it by, you can inspect it and the day you intend to DO the work you can have the truck. No way it works for me to leave it for weeks, that is absurd. It would have to be completely undriveable and then I would expect expedited parts and service to get it back asap. Seems like this is not how they work anymore....

I've been racking up 2,200+ mile weeks lately with the drives out and back being 14 hours +/-. Truck has over 72k miles now. Crawled under the truck yesterday looking things over and paid extra attention to the replaced front seal and all looks good after 50k+ miles since being replaced.

Looks like I'll be changing the spark plugs out sometime this winter. It should be pretty straight forward with all the room in the engine compartment and only 8 plugs. After having the 6.2 with 16 plugs this should be a breeze....hopefully.

Is there a coil pack on top of each plug? If so, how hard is it to remove that?

This is the driverside, just pull the boot off the plug. Can easily access all 4 with room to spare.

This is the passenger side, even with the 2 hoses on top should be easy to get at them.

I was under the front of my truck this afternoon checking out the plow push plates that were installed last week and I noticed oil on the front of the oil pan. Followed it up and it looks like it's coming from the crank seal. 22 f250, 7.3 with 19k miles. I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow to schedule and appointment.

Also have a screech on cold starts that sounds like it could be the fan clutch.

I had mine replaced at 990hrs(about 22,000 km).
Now have 2500 hrs (67,000 km) and started the truck a coupe days ago at -31C (-24F) and let it idle for 30min. Took it to get a new windshield and side window and tint redone. I dropped it off and got a ride home. When I got home there was a puddle of oil the size of a foot ball under the truck and a stain from where it has done it before also. Far worse than when the seal went the first time.

When I picked the truck up it had warmed to -11C, I checked the oil(it was still on full) and I watched while I started it and let it idle, no oil drips.
I've been keeping a eye on it but its been warmer and haven't had any issues.

Has anyone else had this leak only when cold?

Dude, I think cold has something to do with them failing maybe. So mine was totally fine until I went ice camping and it was 5f degrees out! haven't had a prob since they fixed it ruff 12k mile's ago. Also that said truck has not see colder than 30f degrees since repair last year. Maybe this is a thing!? any one else have there fail when engine exposed to severe cold??

Is 20f severe cold if your a snow bird running to warm weather for the winter.

Mine has been fine now so maybe just bad seals manufactured.

Probably. That's the only logical explanation as to why original ones failed that fast.
