In-Tank Fuel Pump for 1990 E350 RV

OK, so after having just had my Airtex E4020S pump replaced with another, and having the gas gauge wander all over and now the pump seems to have failed again (last one failed due to poor electrical contact at spade connectors to pump itself), I am wanting to replace it with a better pump.

This is an RV, so it was based on a Stripped Chassis. It has an aft-mounted, 36-gallon tank.

I called Ford and they gave the part number for the stripped chassis as F1UZ9H307B.

I see one advertised here:
https://www.ebay.com/p/1130674907
Although the part number on the sticker on the outside mounting plate does not match that. Maybe it's the old "engineering number" vs. "part number" thing?

Found another one here:
https://nospartsltd.com/product/f1uz9h307b/

I found this Carter pump assembly:
https://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts...-05276772.html

And this Delphi assembly:
https://www.partsgeek.com/l3nqb9c-fo...-assembly.html

Walmart of all places has the Delphi assembly for much cheaper than partsgeek:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Delphi-HP...Unit/153687345

What do you guys recommend?

OK I just called Ford back to confirm the part number, and now they give me F6PZ9H307DA as the part number for the fuel pump for a stripped chassis 1990 E350.

I wonder if this is the part number of the pump motor itself and not the entire hanging assembly.

My VIN is 1FDKE30G0LHB86066

Auto Zone also spits out the Delphi part number, says it is for E-350 Stripped Chassis with after-axle fuel tank. That sure sounds like me:

summit shows the F6PZ9H307DB to be this one and I don't think it is the correct one.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/m...AaAhi3EALw_wcB

I would lean towards the one at EBAY Ford F1UZ-9H307-B
That sticker is not the part number.. The PF-5 pump i bought has one number on the box and another on the pump. I have heard of a lot of problems with after market pumps. When I bought my van the PO had just installed a new tank, pump, and sending unit. I had to replace it within a month. If you look at the designe of the Ford sending unit and pump connections, they look much heartier then any of the others.

There is a second Ford one listed on Ebay and you can see some more details and part numbers. It claims to fit 36 or 40 gal.

This part fits the vehicle you selected: 1990 Ford E-350/E-350 Super Duty 8 Cyl 7.5L; 4-Speed Automatic Tran
Ford Part No.: F1UZ-9H307-B
Sender And Pump Assembly Part Description Sender And Pump Assy
AFT Axle (Magnetic resistor card), Stripped Chassis
https://www.fordpartsgiant.com/parts..._5l;t=4at_e4od)

If I look up a 1989 E350 with a C6 transmission this same unit is listed as
Part Description Sender And Pump Assy

w/36/40 gal. tank -gas -stripped chassis

I think it should fit your van but the site just didn't enter all the info for your 1990 or they just didn't add the 36 40 gallons

Thanks, Annaleigh.

The Summit Racing link, if you plug in 1990 E350 says it does not fit, too.

I am leaning towards F1UZ-9H307-B also.

I'm going to wait a couple of days and see if NumberDummy shows up to chime in.

I think I've finally found the real culprit behind the "dies when hot" problem here and I'm anxious to get it done with.

I just learned something!
Level sensors - resistor cards.
https://www.piher.net/sensors/index....piher&Itemid=1

I am guilty of buying from walmart to save a few bucks on parts but I quit when they refused to let me return my Moog coil springs. So if you buy parts from them, be sure and verify their return policy for 3rd party parts..

You may have already done this but read in your ford manual abut installing the fuel gauge. I believe there is a section on replacing the sending unit that has something to do with getting it aligned with the dash gauge. I hadn't had my 88 long enough to learn how the gauge responded before I had to replace the pump. When reinstalling the sending unit I just guessed and bent the float rod a little thinking I would have a few spare gallons when the gauge hit E. Well let me tell you, when the needle is dead on the E, there is about 2 gallons left!

If you buy the Ford sending unit with pump, perhaps it is set just where you need it to be as it would make the assembly line move faster.

Last month or maybe a couple of months ago when i replaced my RT spindle, I was lucky and found a ford one. It already had the king pin bushings installed in it. Normally you have to have them reamed out but these were just prefect and it all just went right in place.

When I first replaced the factory in-tank pump, Airtex spit out the wrong part number. The shop installed it, and my fuel gauge worked backwards. Even when replaced with the correct one, it would never read truly full unless you really packed the gasoline in there. But, it worked more or less - good enough for me.

This latest Airtex pump now the gas gauge normally sits about where I'd expect it, but about every 15 minutes it seems to drift down to E, somtimes burying in the E off the gauge. Then it will magically come back up to normal. Maybe when they installed it it had a loose connection. But I'm done with Airtex.

I was going to ask about your oil and temp gauge but if I remember correctly, your stock ones are disconnected? I was thinking about the IVR Instrument cluster voltage regulator.
It can cause the gauges to read a bit odd. I have also read something in the manual about not shorting the sending unit to ground or else applying 12 volts to it as that can cause damage. I haven't had any issues with my sending unit so I am just remembering parts of what I have read when looking up something to hep someone else.

EDIT
here is something from NumbeDummy
"ICVR affects the fuel and temp gauges. When it begins to fail, the needles of these gauges do "the hula" .. swing wildly back/forth on their own. When the puppy fails, the needles peg at F & H"

I added additional, digital Oil (and fuel) pressure gauges, and engine coolant (and transmission) temperature gauges, but my stock oil and temp gauges are still as they were and still work fine.
When the fuel needle went haywire (only after installing the new pump 3 weeks ago), it was pegging at E, never F. Temp gauge is working fine.

Now my cluster ammeter is flaky - there is a loose connection in the dash as if I pound on the dash pad it will start working.

Here is another example of two different numbers. I also looked at an9other map sensor and it showed the same thing, the sticker number different from the part number on the box. $8, and is supposed to be new so I hope it works! The other one was $25 and RA wants $44.

OK so today I drove down to the local Ford dealership to talk to someone in person.
It turns out there is a difference between a Stripped Chassis and an RV Cutaway Chassis. A Stripped Chassis is just an engine and frame. An RV Cutaway has the front cab.

Anyway, the number they came up with for an Aft-Tank-Mounted RV Cutaway Chassis is F1UZ-9H307-A. For the Stripped Chassis, it is F1UZ-9H307-B. I don't know where the guy on the phone yesterday came up with F6PZ9H307DA.

So now the question is, what is the difference between F1UZ-9H307-A and F1UZ-9H307-B? Well, according to Ford Parts Giant, it is this:

F1UZ-9H307-A is listed as having a bi-metal resistor, and is for the cutaway.

F1UZ-9H307-B is listed as having a magnetic resistor card, and is for the stripped chassis.

I suspect these "resistors" are something related to the sending unit, per that link you shared above.

Here is a link I found that describes how bi-metal fuel gauges work.
http://www.netlink.net/mp/volks/htm/fuel_ga.htm

So, I think I need F1UZ-9H307-A.

Here you can see the differences in Sending unit:

So there is definitely a difference in sending unit between -A and -B

I only threw out the melted-down OEM pump assembly a year or so ago when I cleaned out the garage. I wish I had not done that. I bet I could have replaced only the pump itself.

I went ahead and ordered the -A unit. These are impossible to find so I jumped on it. The other two places I found online that claimed to have it actually don't when I called.

I also ordered their 1-Year SquarTrade Warranty which supposedly covers parts and labor. We'll see. Was only another $20 so I figured what the hell.
