I like the idea! 48s have a great look, tho I must admit I always liked 51s more.
Having the full modern chassis will make it plenty more livable. Here's a link to a member who put a 73 F100 on a SuperDuty chassis.

Reliable, yes. But things that do happen are a little expensive, let alone the fact that modding a 7.3 becomes a disease. I imagine finding an IDM or PCM in Puerto Rico would be a challenge?
I think there's a lot simpler installs out there - 12v Cummins comes to mind.

It's extremely reliable. And it'll run almost on any combustible fluid you can squeeze from your loincloth
Mine has 430k miles and is currently running on about 50/50 waste motor oil/#2 diesel fuel. On a cold start it takes about 1-2 seconds longer to fire and gives a short puff of white smoke out the exhaust, other than that it seems to run the same as it does on pure diesel. It also seems to have a little less diesel crackle noise, but not sure.
Edit: Prescott Ice is a gringo, he don't understand.

That would be my choice too, I'd love to build a custom COE one day, I've seen a few 7.3 powerstroke converted trucks for sale, but they're always big bucks. I'm sure that a Cummins swap is easier, but by using a complete donor vehicle you should have just about all you need.
The nicest one I've seen had the 7.3 dashboard blended in, with working A/C, power windows & seats too.

I hope have fun with it... Although sometimes I think I'm a masochist for getting into this mission again!

If we wanted "easy", we'd be buying new Honda Ridgelines. There's something to be said (though sometimes in four-letter words) for having a unique creation handcrafted through long nights, hard work, and much imagination.
