Overheating Problem

Hello, I have a 1992 F-150 5.0l it has always had problems with overheating and I was just wondering what could be some reason for this. My heater core was cracked when I got the truck so I bypassed it, besides that everything else is stock. Any insight would be appreciated.

Failed coolant temperature sensor or bad thermostat is the starting point. How does the coolant look?
