5 Star question

I have mainly been running the 87 performance tune. I told them when I ordered it I had 4.56's, that being the only mod.

When I have switched tunes I simply select the one I want and hit enter/accept. I never messed with the menu options for timing, rev limiter etc.....including gear ratio.

Am I supposed to be selecting 4.56's each time I change tunes or is that already "built in" to the tunes since I informed them of said 4.56's when ordering the tuner?

It should already be built in to the custom tune. The options are there in case you want to modify further.

If I might ask. been asked a million times no doubt... how do you like the 4.56 being the only mod? Reason for asking, I plan on keeping mine stock except future 4.56 gears and 5 star. Plan on being a 65 mph towing vehicle,

I love it. And mpg on my daily commute is unchanged. I'm on 265/70/17's

@TurboCowboy are you sticking with OEM tire sizes? 4.30 was an option for V10's. Check out 4lo.com for checking ratio's.

i loaded and ran the 87Performance tune today. It was definitely excessive
It was too high of rpm at all times. At ALL times : no need for 3,000+ rpm rolling through a parking lot.
It had more power for sure but that’s not why I bought it. And It had a more aggressive full throttle launch from zero.

I didn’t notice an increase during the middle of the tachometer, but maybe it was better.
I did notice a high rpm surge of power at the top of the tach that induced (previously nonexistent) torque steer - so I suppose that’s definitely a marked increase.

I then switched to 87 economy (I think; see next sentence) and it was also excessive. So much that I wondered if I had successfully switched tunes or not. It was still running higher rpm than usual.

In all honesty it was disappointment so far: but only in a way that it did more than I wanted it to do, while not improving the issue I asked for (quicker/firmer shifts)

My largest disappointment is that I was expecting to be able to switch tunes “on the fly”, but it’s actually about 10-15 minute process, and the vehicle must be parked and not running.
Man I just want it to be docile and quiet and friendly under light throttle (with quicker shifts), and then get powerful as I dig in with my right foot. I don’t want to have to park and wait.

i guess if they tuned my 2.0L four cylinder this much; maybe the product is even more impressive with a 6.8liter V10.

The return policy is pretty crappy, so if I don’t like it on my Focus then im praying they’ll reprogram it for my V10.

Overall; I’m quite impressed with what they produced; but it doesn’t match the milder desires I spoke about to them. Maybe they’ll retune it and I’ll be happy. (And then buy another one after my v10 is reassembled).
Ill keep everyone posted.

5 Star will customize the tunes to your liking. I had them do mine as the tow tunes would hold too much rpm before shifts. Since the revise, I love it!

I just switched back to the factory tune because I have emissions testing next week. Man, I forgot how much I hated the stock tune, especially in regards to torque converter lock/unlock and shift pressures. Factory tune seems to unlock the converter at the drop of a hat and holds it unlocked for far too long.
