Need help decoding vin#

Hey All,

Just joined today. Currently I'm looking into buying an old 1966 Ford T850 Super Duty and restoring it. I've been having a hard time decoding the vin. I was looking through different forum posts and have noticed that members here and a wealth of knowledge in that area. Hoping you could help me out.
Vin # T85KUA15449

Any and all info you could supply would be Mich appreciated! Trying to ensure this is what I want before I buy it.

Thanks,
Caleb

T85 - T850 (Gas)

K - 477 Ford 8-cylinder gas 4V

U - Louisville, KY assembly plant

815449 - 1966 - Assembled December 1965 - I figure the "A" is a stampo.

158" Wheelbase.

A - Raven Black Color code

T850 - T850 39,000 Lbs GVWR

E81 - E = Red crush vinyl and red cody pattern woven plastic - 81 = 81B - Custom Cab

Blank Transmission code - indicating possible special order

Blank Axle code - indicating possible special order

39,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

222 net HP @ 3,200 RPM

61 - Dallas, TX District Sales Office

0015 - Domestic Special Order number

Does this truck have a bench seat in it or does it have the Bostrom Viking suspension seat for the drivers side?

Last 6 digits of the VIN: A15449 = The A is not a typo, the T850 is a 1967.

1967 serial number range: A00,001-B82,000.

Thanks NumberDummy for the clarification on the year. It looks to be what I'm looking for as I can't find any t950's so far. The t850 I'm looking at is a good 5.5 hrs away so I'm trying to get all the info I can before I make the trek. Doesn't look to be in running condition but I can't complain about the $800 asking price. It's a cheap way to get into these awesome trucks.

1957/69 T700/950 is an F700/950 with Tandem Axles.

1967/69 F800/1000 & T700/950 use the same cab as 1961/64 F100/1100; 1965 F100/250 4WD; 1965/66 F350/1100; 1966 F250 4WD

The doors, all the glass and the weatherstrips are the same as 1961/66 F100/1100 (doors: except 1961/63 F100/250 Uni pickups) & T700/950.

The weatherstrips are reproduced, but the repro parts sellers only list them for F100/350, as this is what most people have.

Please post further questions in the LARGE TRUCK forum.

Don't be deceived by a low asking price. Big trucks means big parts which means big money. If you are in the business you probably know this. Don't ask be how I found out..Sometimes the seller could give the truck and $5,000.00 and you will come out on the short end of the stick. As suggested in post 2 if the transmission and rear are vendor parts you may be able to get parts through the vendors if they are still in business.

I appreciate the warning shadyside1983. I currently have a 1995 Ford CF8000 20ft flatbed with an 8.3 Cummins and my class a cdl. I want a truck with a higher gvwr/gcwr and a shorter wheel base. I've also always wanted a classic vehicle so I'm planning a full restomod to get both. It'll take lots of time, effort, and money but that's what I'm expecting.

Sorry about the miss on the year. I was trying to make the numbers fit what you said rather than believing them for what they are...I'm always learning!

F10 = F100 2WD

Y = 352 2V

K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant.

872047 = 1966.

VIN when decoded, doesn't tell you much. Post a pic of the Warranty Plate, riveted to the left door face below the latch, or type the info.
