This is roughly what my steering wheel looks like minus the horn button. I bought one of the generic ones and it is crap new plastic with a red V8 symbol on it that looks like junk but what can I say. I need to look up how and what they were made of.
Anyhow I would like a better example of a steering wheel but doubt I will find any N.O.S. just kicking around.
Any ideas???? Also what years was a wheel like this found? Is it like the button or the window regulator parts that were from 40-48?

 

I've repaired a few steering wheels using epoxy paste/putty to look like new again. Hog out the cracks down to the steel and fill with epoxy, sand and paint. The correct horn buttons are available from several of our parts sources, as are the wheels. I believe that style wheel was first available on the 40 pickups and car and used through 47 in the pickups. The horn button pictured looks to be for the Mercury model.

I would like to know what kind of paint you used to do this?

Does anyone have a Merc with that type of button? Pictures would help. A mold of the button would be even better. Got to work on that.
