1973 F100 vacuum problems on carb
Hey guys,
Just picked up at 1973 F100 custom with a 302 today. Truck had been sitting for a while and someone halfway seemed to be working on it. I threw a new radiator and battery in and got it to crank over. I could get it to fire just fine on starting fluid and bypassing the gas tank with just a hose in a gas can. Any time I gave it gas at all it would immediately die so i took a closer look at the carb. First off the choke is wide open and although im new to the older Ford that seems wrong to me. Then I noticed all the vacuum lines were cut and plugged with anything from a broken pen to a socket. Also the vacuum nipple that comes off the manifold and I THINK goes to the choke diaphragm is pinched closed and bent over. I could only find one vacuum line at all going to the carb. Im looking to see if anyone can show a picture of how its supposed to look because i dont even know where to begin with running new lines or if there is any kind of a vacuum diagram to the carb. Is there any reason someone would do this and also should the choke be open when the truck is off? Also there was a vacuum line in place to the distributor diaphragm and one small one on the passenger side of the carb.
