1969 F600 ignition system

Have a 69 F600 bucket truck. Has not ran very well since I had it. Stumbled on acceleration. Just installed a new carb and still hard to start and backfires some at carb. Have to jump the resistor to make it run. Going to work on the ignition. 361 engine. What should I have here? The resistor is just laying on the block and has a jumper wire across it. Point look ok and used some 600 sandpaper on them a few time over the 5 yrs I have had the truck. Looks like an Autolite Dist. Is the resistor wiring set up to use a system that gives full voltage while cranking? What coil should it use? Can I get a kit to change to electronic? Most say for motorcraft dist only that I have seen. Thanks. LB

Please ask questions in the LARGE TRUCK forum. Most members of this forum have pickups.

There was no such thing as Motorcraft until 1973, but replacement parts installed after 1972 on previous year vehicles will be Motorcraft, as all the former Auto-Lite part numbers became Motorcraft part numbers.

In 19732 the US Gov't forced FoMoCo to sell Auto-Lite, as the gov't claimed that FoMoCo had a monopoly on auto parts

C0LF-12250-A .. Resistor Wire-Ignition Coil (Motorcraft DY-37) / Obsolete

61.49" long / Color coded PINK / 1.30-1.40 ohms resistance / #20 gauge wire.

1960/73 all FoMoCo vehicles; 1974/75 Passenger Cars & Light Trucks without DuraSpark electronic ignition, 1974/77 500 and larger series trucks (DuraSpark not available until 1978).
