If you are converting to electronic ignition you do not use a ballast resistor anyhow. I do not believe FORD used a ballast resistor from the factory. If you had an aftermarket ignition system like Mallory or MSD sometime's they would use a resistor.
Ford used a ballast resistor on the points systems and the duraspark systems. If you are installing an aftermarket system, some need it some don't. It's important if the system requires it.
Take the coil and hook the red/lightgreen wire to the positive, and hook touch the negative of the coil to the engine block. Turn the key to run. If you have about 9 volts on the coil positive, you already have a resistor.
If you want to eliminate the resistor, follow the red/lightgreen all the way back to the ignition switch. Cut it at the ignition switch and run a new wire out to the coil from the ignition switch.
