Maximum safe RPM

When towing my car behind my Class A going up and down hills what is the maximum RPM I should let my engine get to?

If you get the over-rev warning then you went too far. You should have a red line on your tachometer. Don't exceed that.

Just curious, what Class A has a 6.7 Ford diesel?

Ford engine management software won't let you harm your engine. Pedal to the metal is perfectly acceptable. I'm also curious what Class A is using the 6.7L.

As far as I know, none. The only engine that I'm aware of Ford putting in a class A chassis is the 6.8L V10 gasser.

I'd advise looking at the tach and the owners manual.

When you hit the rerv limiter than you know the limit. Other wise when the valves start to float then thats all it's got.

My tach doesn’t have any red line and goes up to 6000. I’ve never let it get past 4500 - then only briefly - too loud and wasn’t sure what that was doing to the transmission. I have a gas V10 in a Thor 2014 Hurricane 27K.

The reason we're asking about the engine is you posted your question in the diesel 6.7L forum. You might want to repost in one of the gas engine forums, or ask a moderator to move this thread.

Well you got the wrong forum but 4500 rpm is not near max rpm for the v10. Many of us run them at WOT at over 5000 rpm up hill just fine. At 4500 rpm you aren't even getting full HP.

I've traveled all over the US towing a large fifth-wheel trailer with an F-350 V-10. They like to spin, both going up hills and coming down (tow/haul mode engine braking). I've seen over 4500 rpm a number of times, especially when descending a steep grade. The engine computer will take care of the engine without you needing to worry about a "not-to-exceed" RPM. The V-10 is a great engine, but it needs to turn a lot of RPM's in some situations.
