Cool Getting the “Green Mill” running again 1974 F250

I attached a photo of the “Green Mill” coming off the delivery truck from California. 1974 F250 2wd SuperCab, 390 FE with a Holley 4 banger. Only a little over 12,000 miles (I hope) Has been sitting in the family’s garage for many years. I call the Truck the Green Mill because it’s green, and the Green Mill is a great vintage bar in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood that I used to enjoy going to. It’s like going back in time to the 1920’s. Everything is original. A real old time Chicago gangster club. Anyway the truck looks pretty good, no rust, all original and straight as an arrow. My first issue was to find V belts because there were none on it. I got some help figuring out how to dertermine what belts to buy from 2 fellow FTE’s. I will try and get them on in a few days. Then I need to drain and change all the fluids and replace some basic ignition parts. Can anyone tell me what do set the new points at? I pulled the plugs today, only broke one and installed new plugs. Just regular copper plugs for now. I really just want to keep the truck as original as possible and get it running as good as I can.
i will keep you posted if your interested and look forward to all the good comments and suggestions from my fellow FTE members

Don't throw away your old ignition condenser - unless it's actually bad. The ones you get nowadays are typical 21st century crap, with a much-higher failure rate than the old stuff.

Nice truck! Looking forward to more pics.

Double Fan Belts - Do I need 2 of the same?

it looks like there are places for 2 of the same belts for the fan blade
Do I need 2?
if only 1, which one?
Front or back

Do I need double belts?

Hard to tell from that picture but if you use the rope truck I bet you will find 2 belts do go around the fan pulley but 1 to the alternator and the other 1 to power steering.

I am sure that is the only way they can be run and not be cocked in the grooves.

Also to get a V belt to grab, aka not slip & not make noise the belt has to wrap around at least half but more if you can.

Now on high power things like AC compressors & 3G ALT. they need 2 matched set of belts.

The AC should have an idler pulley on the bracket the supports the left side of the compressor. It is the adjustment point for the AC belt. BTW, nice color choice. Yours could almost be the twin of mine, except your paint looks like it is in much better condition that mine...

A/c belt

I do have the pulley but it’s not enough. Maybe I got the wrong belt and need a 1” shorter one
thanks

There are two versions of the AC- factory and dealer installed. Do you have the giant air box in the engine compartment? If so, that is factory. I believe the belts are supposed to be the same, but it might not hurt to ask the parts guy. The other issue I found is there are about 13 variations on the belts. Took me two tries to get the right PS belt. Haven't got the AC installed and operational yet, but I am sure that will be an adventure for belts as well.

A/C belt size

I got a 55” belt that’s loose today

Oreilys has a 53 3/8” belt so I will get it tomorrow and try
that should do the trick

thanks

Tried to start- no luck!

i put the shorter a/c belt on and it still has too much play so I will keep looking for a shorter one maybe 1”-1 1/2”

put new plugs in changed the oil and filter put some gas in and got a new battery

now the moment of truth.....it only cranked for about 3 seconds then nothing it really didn’t turn over just like a single jolt
could this be the starter?

let me know what else it may be

thanks

Take a rope, show string, anything and pull it tight around the grooves. Measure the distance and that will put you close to the belt size you need.

Did all of the lights and electrical accessories stop working with the starter? If so, it's probably just a battery cable connection.
