Roof Mount Cross Bar Rails

I plan on getting a roof rack and need something to mount it on. When I bought my 02' EX, it didn't have any roof rail cross bars on it. Did a search but not finding much for aftermarket type cross bars.
I saw 1 factory bar on ebay and it was going for over $160. Didn't realize they were that much.

Thanks, Jon

You really don't want the factory cross bars, they sit so low that the vibration from driving can wear through the roof paint and they don't provide the needed clearance for mounting a rack or carrier. You will be much better off going with aftermarket feet, stands and cross bars, I use self fabricated feet, Inno stands and Thule bars.

Thanks Tom. Been looking and pricing parts.
Trouble finding those specific to Excursion. Looks like I'll have more cost into the stands and cross bars than I will a top carry rack.

I bough my stuff from etrailer.com, their listings are a little screwed up in regards to the EX as the dropdown menu asks if its the EL model, so I supposed it was mixed up with the Expy. When I got the Inno stands I found that the foot parts that go into the roof tracks were not the correct size to hold correctly, so I went to work in the garage. After a little bit of time with the band saw, drill press and sanding disc I converted some 1/4" plate into new heavy duty feet for the Inno stands. I was a little pressed for time as we wanted to take the kayaks on an upcoming trip, so I went this route vs returning the Inno parts and searching further for the right parts. If I had to do it over again and had a little more time I would build the entire feet. stand and cross bars myself, would have been cheaper and stronger. But I am happy with the current setup as it handles the 3 kayaks (two 10' and one 12' sit-ins) just fine and mounts and dismounts quickly and easily.

No, at least no close ups that show them well, they are not currently mounted but I could snap a few to show the parts. And I think I have some pics somewhere of when I made the feet that I could post up.
These are the Inno stands I bought. https://www.etrailer.com/multi-produ...14,SKI_3,BOX14 They were available back then as just the stands and feet without the bars which is what I got. I bought the Thule bars in 50" or 52" (I think) length at the same time from etrailer.
This stuff really does seem a bit overpriced for what it is.

I think this is a very clever and effective option using cheap parts yard parts. It gives you what should have come on the EX from the factory.
