Re-Examine Cruise Control Recall

I've heard that there was a recall on the original recall for the cruise control. Is this true? It seems that the recall may not completely prevent the possibility of fire. I'm thinking maybe they don't have the correct wire fused. Does anyone know if this is the case? I recently saw another nice truck lost possibly due to this. I'd rather not see more casualties.

This explains it pretty good:
93 & 94-96 Cruise Control Recalls Repair - Ford Bronco Forum

I have the fused harness with the blue tag.
I kind of remember my 93 was actually leaking brake fluid just a week before the scheduled appointment I had made to get the fused harness installed.
I also kinda remember the 95 wasn't subject to the recall for some reason.
I will have to look at both my 93 and my 95 tomorrow to verify.

I'm old now and my memory isn't what it used to be.

My '96 has the harness with the fuse and the blue tag, but I keep an eye on it anyway.

I had the recall done in my '95 F250 after I bought it in 2014.

The thing is that the fused harness is what Ford did IF the red switch was NOT leaking at the time the recall was being performed.
If the switch was leaking at time of the recall being performed, you got the switch replaced too.

The real problem was the red switch.
If you still have it just keep an eye on it.

From what I have read, when the recall was first started, Ford realized that the fused harness they were adding to the vehicles were not made correctly so they then had to re-recall all the vehicles that were just done. There was quite a wait time while enough harness were being made to get the recall done.

If you have the red switch still and/or the blue tagged harness you may want to get the proper fix done on this. It is part SW 6350 and is available at many places for less than $25.

And not all OBS trucks or Broncos of the 92-97 model years with speed control were subject to the recall. I think some have a different type switch or other protections in them already from the factory.

1992 model year trucks had a the vacuum operated speed control system. No Brake Pressure Switch (BPS).

The 1993 trucks were the first to use the electronic Speed Control system. The BPS was located near the RABS module along the driver side frame rail. The 1994 and later trucks had the BPS mounted on the master cylinder. All of the 1993 and later trucks were or should have been in the recall group because of the design flaw for the fused power supply circuit and the switch design.

Yes, after going out and looking at them, I believe you are correct. This kind of jogged my memory a little bit.

My '93 truck still has the red switch and the blue tagged fuse harness. It is located just above the frame mounted RABS unit under where the steering column comes out of the firewall.
When I spoke w/ Ford about 2008 or so, responding to a notice I got in the mail pertaining to this recall affecting my '95 Bronco, this '93 truck was not included on the recall list, but probably because it had already been done at a past visit. (I can't recall when that previous visit was though??).

My '95 Bronco recall was going to be a jumper harness too, but shortly before my appointment to get the harness installed, the red switch started leaking brake fluid.
I showed that to the service writer and I actually witnessed them install the new black switch and the shorter pigtail adapter/fuse with NO blue tag.

So it looks like my '93 truck still could use the new black switch along with the improved harness adapter/fuse pigtail.
IDK, but I think it would be harder to catch on fire being mounted horizontally down low on the frame anyways, being that the brake fluid would just drip off down to the ground and not pool up the way it will on the master cylinder mounted models with a vertical mounted switch.
I'm sure that it is okay the way it is but may be prudent to replace it anyways.

Just popped the hood on mine, I've still got the old red switch. No sign of any leakage though.

Still going to opt to replace the whole deal.

I just found this from the NHTSA website.
I looks like it was three campaigns regarding the 93-97 trucks/broncos (and also included other models as well).
As noted above, '92 OBS models didn't use this speed control system.

This website has a look up for the VIN, and you can also look up by year and model:

Ford's solution to the last recall was to install fuses on both sides of the circuit. The harness they installed on my truck has two fuses.

I wonder how simple the swap is for the new sensor. Will there be a need to bleed?

I'll have to look, but I'm believe I still have the red switch too and only remember seeing one fuse on the recall harness. I'm guessing I should disconnect it for now.

If you're looking for info on the 05S28 recall, there were 16 supplements for that recall. I dont see the alleged "re-recall" of the incorrectly made harnesses - I do see two different harnesses & I DO see interim repair methods. Early harnesses that were largely vehicle specific were single fuse deals. The later harnesses were adapted for universal use and had two fuses. See below:

Concerning interim repairs, it looks like, due to lack of parts availability, that Ford authorized the temporary decommissioning of the speed control system so that owners could continue to drive their vehicle.

Per the service manual on the recall, You were supposed to fill the brake reservoir to the top, drip new brake fluid into the new sensor, remove the old sensor and while fluid was flowing out of the master cylinder install the new sensor. It does say if you let the air enter the system to bleed but should not occur during normal service.
