2001 F250 won't shift out of Park

Well, I sort of did it to myself, I think. I got pulled over and given a warning because my brake lights didn't work. Well, that's an unfortunate surprise, but I'm glad to not get a ticket. And it'll probably just be a fuse. I replaced a burned out fuse under the hood and...the lights still didn't work. So I checked the switch on the brake pedal. It seemed ok, but I wasn't getting any power from the wire that came from the fusebox. Putting the leads of my multimeter on the wires that the repair manual said went to the brake lights got nothing, but checking the continuity of the switch with the connectors that those leads mate to it seemed fine. So, seems like I've either got a short in the wire coming from the fuse box, or a bad ground. I'm thinking it's a short, since I get no circuit when checking between the power wire and a good ground.

I put the harness back into place on the Brake Pedal Position Switch. I started my truck and went to shift into drive and...nothing. Shifter won't move. Oddly enough, the power windows don't work now, either. I haven't done a full test of all the electrical systems in the truck (and might well be not at all qualified for it, I'll admit it), but I'd very much like to at least figure out what I can do to at least no have to call a tow truck.

I'm guessing that - if the switch wasn't bad before, it might be now. Or, my messing with the wires moved other wires around, and the problem is either upstream or downstream of the switch. There are five wires on the harness that attaches to the switch. To the best of my knowledge - green/red stripe (power to brake lights), green (brake lights), blue/brown stripe (power, but not sure what for, possibly to the mechanism that unlocks the shifter), red/green stripe (unknown) and orange (unknown.) Reading elsewhere, there's the suggestion that it's a problem in the multifunction switch. I don't know enough to say, particularly given that the windows seem wrapped up in it somehow.

I suppose I should check the wiring diagram for the windows, that might help add clues.

That doesn't tell us much, tell us which fuse you replaced so we know which circuit or circuits it affects. For the brake lights and shift interlock check fuses 18, 25, and 34.

Thanks for the replies, and sorry I haven't replied. I'm working on a house for sale a few hours from where I live, and I'm staying in it while I do. I have no internet there, and the closest library is a mile away (so, being without my truck working, I'm only able to get to the library on Saturday since it's closed on Sunday.)

@alloro - I replaced fuse number 3 or number 1 under the hood. Both are 7.5 amp, and both locations are for the trailer towing package. I didn't look up the location of the brake light fuses, I just kinda went through everything to find what was burned out. I'd guess it's not particularly important.

@Lawnpro979 - thanks for the link, that looks useful.
