Rear view LED spot light question

Recently found we have forward facing LED spot lights in the side view trailering mirrors. They work great to light up the sides to find yard entrance in dark rural areas.

Now I have to be fully stopped to turn them on. Also they turn off when I get over 5 mph or so.

My questions are;
Is there any way to turn them on without being fully stopped? (Forscan perhaps?)
Is there any way to keep them on above 5 mph?

Rear view spotlights? Are you referring to the forward facing lights in the trailering mirrors that point to the front at an angle?

Thanks for clarification.

I’m referring to the forward facing lights in the side view trailering mirrors. I just edited the original posting so there’s no confusion.

No problem. I was actually hoping thee were some rear facing lights I missed somewhere. I like those mirror lights but mine won't come on unless I'm stopped and I wish they were much brighter.I haven't tried them out in the country in pitch black though.

There is a minor wiring mod that allows these to turn on whenever you want and stay on. Here is the link to the F-150 forum that found the mod; I think the Super Duty wiring is identical since both trucks offer this spot light feature:
https://www.f150forum.com/f118/run-m...u-want-311291/

It is illegal to run them on the road at speed, hence why they shut down automatically. I find them useful for plowing and backing up and might make this mod myself.

There is also a company that turns them into white strobe lights which are reasonably bright for about $150.

Awesome! I’m going to look into this, I’ve been hoping for this exact info since I got my ‘17 this would be very handy for finding address markers among other things.

I have a 2017 F250 XLT FX4 with the premium package. All I've noticed is an amber turn signal in the mirror. Does this mirror have a spot light?

If you have the mirror spotlights then your truck will have the two spotlight switches immediately below the left-most HVAC vent. Without these switches, I don't believe the actual white LEDs are present in the mirrors.

Thanks, I'll go take a look. From memory there are some switches there that I had no idea of what they did....and never opened the owners manual to find out.

The XLT premium should have them, just note you must have the headlights on for them to work.

Thanks for letting me know to have the headlights on. I took a look at the truck and now the icons on the switches make sense. I think I only tried them as I was driving down the road much over 5 mph. I would like to have some cornering light when I am on narrow mountain switchback roads after dark. I can't see around the corner because the headlights and my off road lights are all so well focused up the road and not out to the sides. If these aren't bright enough I'll still end up with some cheapo lights mounted to the running board brackets.

I had the same problem wanting lights out to the side, but mine didn't have the mirror lights. I added these lights under the bottom for less then $50. Best modification I've done.

Yes, if the mirror lights aren't bright enough I will be adding some cheapo lights like you did.

They aren't that bright, but they definitely are better than nothing. Ford envisioned using them to help setup a campsite, but they do illuminate the side of the road a bit.

I fold the mirrors in and that lets me direct the light more to the side and no so much to the front and the side. They stay on for 10 mins after truck is shut down correct?
